SLAF STATION MORAWEAWA SYMBOLIZES THE COMMENCEMENT OF PADDY CULTIVATION ON MAHA SEASON 2023/2024
2:35pm on Tuesday 30th April 2024
The SLAF Station Morawewa conducted the annual "Aluth Sahal Mangalyaya" to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises yesterday (29 April 2024) by using harvested paddy in the 'Maha' season. The event is part of the traditional ceremony at this station after the successful completion of all paddy cultivation activities. The programme was conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya. Officers, other ranks and civilian staff also participated in the event.

Further, as a community service initiative, this station has already begun to purchase paddy from mainly low-income farmers in this area in order to overcome the issues faced during the selling process of harvested paddy. This paddy purchasing is utilized to cater to the consuming requirements of all servicemen, civilians working in the SLAF and their families through the Welfare Project Unit at Base SLAF Ratmalana. Approximately 20000 kg of rice is supplied to the Welfare Project Unit at Base SLAF Ratmalana on a monthly basis. In addition, a new automated rice mill has also been installed in the rice mill project to enhance efficiency and increase the quality of products.
