SLAF CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

In celebration of World Environment Day and in line with the 73rd Anniversary of the SLAF, a plant distribution and tree planting programme was organized in the Eastern Province today (05 June 2024). This event was held at the invitation of the Provincial Director of the Department of Agriculture, Eastern Province. Arrangements were made to distribute and plant 29,000 saplings across the three districts of the Eastern Province, namely Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee.

The saplings were arranged by the SLAF Agro Unit, including varieties of Anoda, Guava, Lemon, Rose Apple, Tamarind, Wood Apple, Goraka, Mango, Kohomba, Coconut, Jackfruit, Kubuk, Passion Fruit and more. The programme was successfully conducted with the participation of Director Agriculture and Welfare Projects, Air Commodore Erandika Gunawardhane, Deputy Commandant SLAF Academy China Bay, Group Captain Asela Kuruwita. Further, the Chief Secretary of the Eastern Province, Mr. RMPS Rathnayaka, the Secretary of Agriculture Eastern Province, Mr. IJK Muthubanda and the Provincial Director of Agriculture, Mr. MBA Kalees, were also present for the occasion.
