The Flight Safety Inspectorate, under the supervision of Director Flight Safety, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara, conducted the Flight Safety Poster Competition Awards Ceremony at Air Force Headquarters today (05 June 2024). The event was graced by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, as the Chief Guest, who presented prizes and certificates to the top winners of the competition.

The Annual Flight Safety Poster Competition, organized for the 15th time, was held as part of the 73rd anniversary celebrations with the aim of enhancing flight safety awareness among all ranks of the SLAF. This year's competition introduced a new segment, inviting aviation-enthusiastic schoolchildren to participate in a separate category.

Participants in both categories created posters on relevant flight and ground safety themes, including Crew Resource Management, Passenger and Cargo Handling, Fire and Rescue, Alcohol and Self-medication, Elementary Stresses, Corrosion, Disorientation, Stress, and Fatigue, which are common in daily flying environments.

The inspectorate received over 300 posters across both categories. After a rigorous selection process by an expert panel of judges, the top winners were selected in each category. Additionally, 10 consolation prize winners were chosen in each category.

The awarding ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickremeratne, Director Flight Safety, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara, Group Captain Sumeda Samarasekara, both service and school winners, and the parents of the school winners.
