FOUNDATION STONE LAYING CEREMONY OF THE SHANTHIPURA VIEW POINT PROJECT NUWARA ELIYA

The foundation stone was laid commencing the Shanthipura View Point Project Nuwara Eliya today (31 July 2024).

The event was graced by the Secretary Chief Ministry and Ministry of Education Central Province Council, Mr. Menaka Herath, Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Chandana Geethapriya and other local government representatives as invitees who laid the foundation stones.

The Director General Construction Engineering addressed the gathering and explained the purpose of the proposed View Point building and the expected outcomes. Even though Shanthipura, the highest elevated village in Sri Lanka, had an old building that has been deteriorated due to the extreme weather conditions in the area, the most popular tourist destination has existed with the need of a new view point building. It is expected to complete the new construction with the addition of a car park for the visitors.

Further, this project has been initiated as a joint project by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Sri Lanka Air Force and aims to strengthen the tourism experience for both local and foreign visitors.

The event was attended by the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Pidurutalagala, Group Captain Nalin Wewakumbura, officers and airmen of the station.

Sri Lanka Air Force, is the only aerial arm among the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, responsible for defending the nation's airspace and supporting its sister services for all kind of operations.
