NO. 7 HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY

The No. 7 Helicopter Squadron located at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, which asserts a glamorous history from 1994 to date, rendering 29 years of dedicated service to the nation, celebrated its 30th anniversary today (23 September 2024). The Squadron was initially established as the No. 401 Squadron on 23 September 1994, with Bell 212 and Bell 206 helicopters. Later on, it was re-designated as the No. 7 Helicopter Squadron on 23 March 1996.
Marking the occasion, the customary Working Parade was held at the squadron premises, which was reviewed by Wing Commander Kanchana Liyanarachchi, the present Commanding Officer of No. 7 Squadron, followed by an address to the officers and other rankers where he extended his gratitude to all past and present members of the squadron for the generous contribution and tireless efforts to spotlight the glory and the eminence of the squadron.
Following the parade, a fellowship was held to commemorate the anniversary with all squadron personnel, along with several entertainment events. The Base Commander SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, Air Commodore Dinesh Jayaweera, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
In addition to paying profound respect to the squadron's fallen war heroes and their beloved families, along with all others who had contributed to the success of the squadron, they were honoured and praised during the commemoration and religious ceremonies, including a "Bhodi Pooja" conducted at the Buddhist Centre Hingurakgoda, further invoking blessings upon the squadron, all personnel and their families.
In line with the anniversary the squadron organized a blood donation campaign to donate blood to the Blood Bank of Polonnaruwa under the guidance of the Commanding Officer. The squadron personnel also took the courtesy in arranging a meal for all the children at Bosath Children's Home Hingurakgoda.
