AIR FORCE OPEN SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP – 2024

The 16th Air Force Open PSA (Professional Squash Association) Squash Championship-2024 concludes on a high note at the Squash complex, SLAF Base Ratmalana today(26 November 2024). The finals were held the Women’s Open and Men’s Open categories. The occasion was graced by Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, President Sri Lanka Squash, Mr. Dhammika Wijesundara, Secretary Air Force Sports Council and Vice President Sri Lanka Squash Federation, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, Secretary Air Force Squash, Group Captain Niroshan Kiriwella, past Chairmen and Secretaries of Air Force Squash, other distinguished guests from Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Squash.
The Air Force Open Squash Tournament, conducted in adherence to international regulations under the full supervision of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation, featured participation from both local and foreign athletes, totaling over 450 players.
Shamil Wakeel delivered an exceptional performance to claim victory in the Men’s Open category of the Air Force Open PSA Squash Championships 2024, defeating Methmal Wood in a competitive final. Demonstrating remarkable skill and dominance, Shamil secured the championship title with a decisive 3-0 victory in rounds.
In the Women’s Open final, Indian player Anjali Semwal showcased outstanding skill and determination to secure the championship title. In a closely contested match, she overcame former standout squash champion Chanithma Sinaly, representing Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in rounds.
