ASSISTANCE TO RENOVATION OF GYMNASIUM OF “CHALLENGERS” SPORTS CLUB – GUWAN MITHUDAM PROJECT OF SLAF SVU
A “Guwan Mithudam” project has initiated to renovate the gymnasium of “Challengers” sports club at Makadura area and this project was executed by SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in liaison with SLAF Base Katunayaka. Several well-wishers have joined this project by donating construction materials.
This gymnasium which was functioning with minimum resources which led the home for an International Wrestling star, Miss Nethmi Ahinsa Fernando who is at 20 years old. She is a bronze medalist at 2022 Commonwealth Games in Women's 57 kg weight category. Her achievement marked Sri Lanka's first ever medal in the sport of wrestling and becoming the youngest ever Sri Lankan medalist at the Commonwealth Games.
