SLAF CONDUCTS TRADITIONAL FLAGS BLESSING CEREMONY AT SACRED 'JAYA SRI MAHA BODHI'

The Sri Lanka Air Force conducted the traditional Flags Blessing Ceremony today (11 March 2025) at the sacred ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’ Anuradapura as part of the 74th Anniversary celebrations. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, along with the participation of all Base Commanders, Academy Commandant, Station Commanding Officers and Formation Commanding Officers.

In a ceremonial procession, flag-bearers assembled at the Welimaluwa (lower layer) while being accompanied by a vibrant pageant led by monks, who proceeded to the Udamaluwa for religious observances. Subsequently, all flags representing the Sri Lanka Air Force and its establishments were taken to the upper layer, where a symbolic invocation of blessings took place. This ritual bestows blessings upon all personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force serving across the entire island in diverse capacities.

The event was organized by SLAF Base Anuradhapura and was attended by the dignitaries including the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, senior officers, other ranks and civilian staff, representing the entire Sri Lanka Air Force.




Sri Lanka Air Force, is the only aerial arm among the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, responsible for defending the nation's airspace and supporting its sister services for all kind of operations.
