NATION PAYS TRIBUTE AT 16TH NATIONAL WAR HEROES COMMEMORATION CEREMONY

The National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony 2025 was convened at the War Heroes Memorial at Battaramulla today (19 May 2025) for the 16th consecutive time, under the patronage of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

During the ceremony, the President paid homage to the supreme sacrifice made by the Tri-Service and Police personnel by offering floral tributes at the memorial. The event was further attended by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda and Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilake. Among those in attendance the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyakontha (Retd), Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Hon. Ravi Senaviratne, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, Commanders of the ARMY and Navy, Former Tri Forces Commanders, Acting Inspector General of Police, CSD Director General, Director of National Cadet Corps, War Heroes and fallen War Heroes’ families including the beloved spouse of Wing Commander TDS Silvapulle, the only son of the SLAF who is decorated with Parama Weera Vibushanaya(PWV).

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
