LECTURE SERIES ON AIR LAW CONDUCTED FOR AIR FORCE PILOTS

As part of an initiative to enhance the legal knowledge and regulatory awareness of SLAF pilots, a lecture series on Air Law and related subjects has been conducted by the Director Supplies and Services, Group Captain Kapila De Silva, who is currently serving in the Directorate of Logistics. The programme aimed to strengthen the understanding of International Aviation Law among aircrew, thereby supporting their ability to operate within the framework of Global Aviation Regulations.

The inaugural session, held on 28 April 2025, provided an introduction to international aviation law, with a focus on regulatory authorities and compliance standards relevant to both civil and military aviation. The session was attended by 70 Air Force Pilots.

Following the initial success, the second session took place yesterday (02 June 2025), covering more advanced and operationally relevant aspects of Air Law. Topics included International Legal Frameworks on Aircraft Hijacking, Rules of the Air Interception of Aircraft and Crew Status and Captain’s Power on board. This session drew the participation of 50 pilots, attending both in person and online, promoting broader accessibility and engagement.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
