NO. 4 VVIP/VIP HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF SERVICE

The No. 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force commemorated its 60th anniversary on 01 June 2025, marking six decades of dedicated service to the nation. The celebrations began with a formal working parade attended by all squadron personnel.

To mark this milestone, a series of religious and community-focused events were organized. A pirith chanting ceremony followed by an alms-giving was held to invoke blessings for the squadron and its members. A church mass was conducted on 29 May 2025, seeking spiritual guidance for continued service and protection. Additionally, a blood donation drive was held on 30 May 2025.

Established in 1965 as a separate Flight, the No. 4 Helicopter Squadron has grown into one of the Sri Lanka Air Force’s most capable and respected operational units. Over the years, the squadron has enhanced its capabilities and operational readiness, consistently fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to it.

Currently operating a fleet of Bell 212, Bell 412/412EP and Mi-171E helicopters, the squadron undertakes the vital task of airlifting local and foreign dignitaries, including VVIPs and VIPs. In addition to this primary role, the squadron remains ever ready to conduct diverse operations such as Search and Rescue (SAR), Casualty Evacuations (CASEVAC), Medical Assistance, Disaster Relief, Reconnaissance Missions and Aerial Firefighting.

Throughout its 60-year history, the squadron has achieved numerous operational milestones, reflecting the professionalism, dedication and service of its personnel, both past and present.
