
SRI LANKA AVIATION UNIT IN BRIA MARKS UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPERS DAY WITH PRIDE AND HONOUR

The 77th International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was proudly commemorated on 29 May 2025 across all UN missions worldwide, recognizing the invaluable contributions and sacrifices made by peacekeepers in promoting global peace and security.
In concurrence with this global observance, the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit deployed in Bria, Central African Republic, actively participated in a series of ceremonial and recreational events organized in collaboration with the Sector Headquarters in Bria.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a formal military parade held at the Sector Headquarters. Troops from Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Zambia, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) and the Gendarmerie Police of Central African Republic took part in the parade. The Sri Lankan flight was commanded by Flight Lieutenant RRMPB Rathnayake.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the vibrant cultural performances presented by each participating country, celebrating their unique traditions and raising mutual respect and understanding. The Sri Lanka Aviation Unit captivated the audience with an elegant and energetic traditional Kandyan dance performance, proudly representing the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.
In addition to the ceremonial events, a friendly sports festival was also held to promote camaraderie among the troops. The Sri Lanka Aviation Unit displayed commendable sportsmanship and teamwork, emerging as the runners-up in the Volleyball Tournament after a spirited final match against the team from Rwanda.
