
ANNUAL COMMANDER'S INSPECTION AT SLAF BASE HINGURAKGODA

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, conducted the Annual Commander’s Inspection at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda yesterday (07 June 2025).
The Commander reviewed the parade which featured the Air Force Standards and the parade was commanded by the Base Commander SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, Air Commodore Dinesh Jayaweera. Moreover, the Certificates of Commendation were awarded by the Commander of the Air Force to the following service personnel in recognition of their invaluable contributions to SLAF Base Hingurakgoda.

During the inspection, the Commander toured a wide range of facilities beginning with the Base Headquarters and Pre School, followed by the Airmen’s Holiday Home, Uniform Outfitters Section, Main Guardroom, Equipment Section, and No. 2 S&MD. He proceeded to visit the Warrant Officers’ and Senior NCOs’ Mess, No. 9 and No. 7 Squadrons, the Runway Project, Operations Room, Intelligence Section, and Tower, then moved on to the Base Armoury, Motor Transport Section, No. 25 Regiment Wing, and the E&TE Section. The inspection also included a visit to the Hospital, Airmen’s/Airwomen’s Social Club and JNCOs’ Club, after which the Commander attended an all ranks lunch at the Airmen’s & Airwomen’s Mess. The afternoon continued with visits to the Airmen’s Billets, Sports Section, Cafeteria, Welfare Shop, Clippers’ Salon, Officer Cadets’ Mess, and Officers’ Mess.

In conclusion, the Commander addressed all personnel at the Base, including military members and civilian staff, and formally announced the imminent expansion of the aircraft fleet. He also outlined a forthcoming rightsizing of personnel to ensure optimal alignment with operational requirements. Stressing the necessity of excellence, he urged every individual to execute their duties with diligence, adhere unwaveringly to established standards and uphold exemplary discipline both within the organization and in public life. He further stated that upon its completion, the runway project alone will elevate the Base to international status. In closing, the Commander expressed his thanks to all officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian employees, encouraging everyone to continue demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism in all facets of their work.
