
SLAF HEADS INFRASTRUCTURE REVAMP AT CENTRAL BUS STAND IN SUPPORT OF ‘CLEAN SRI LANKA'

As part of the national ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative, a comprehensive upgradation of the Central Bus Stand in Colombo is set to commence, aimed at enhancing the infrastructure, cleanliness and sustainability of one of the city’s busiest transport hubs. The SLAF has been assigned to implement the upgrading, based on SLAF's relevant technical experience in public sector projects.
The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe attended the special inspection visit which was carried by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, Hon. Bimal Rathnayake along with the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) today (16 June 2025) to review the preliminary requirements for the upgrading project.
The refurbishment will focus on improving commuter amenities, modernizing facilities and aligning the transport hub with environmental and sustainability standards. These improvements are expected to enhance both user experience and operational efficiency, contributing positively to Colombo’s public transportation infrastructure.
This special visit was attended by the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadeera, the Director of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Mr. Jeewaka Prasanna Purasinghe and other officials.
