The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a new classroom building at Welamitiyawa Primary School, Galewela was held today (16 July 2025). The foundation stone was laid by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, together with the President of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit at Station Sigiriya, Mrs. Sandya Premawardane, Principal, Mr. Priyashantha Ukgalla and Kusum Wickramarathne, teacher of the Welamitiyawa Primary School.

The proposed classroom building, valued at  Rs. 30 million, is funded by Dr. Lal Thilakarathne and Dr. Mrs. Eranga Thilakarathne, the president and distinguished member of the Japan – Sri Lanka Friendship Association. The construction of the same will be undertaken by Sri Lanka Air Force by utilizing its workforce, under the supervision of the SLAF Station Sigiriya.
