Aircraftman Tharanga PR made history at the 2025 World Athletic Continental Tournament held in Bhubaneswar, India, clinching the Gold Medal in the Javelin Throw with a stunning distance of 86.50m, setting a brand-new National Record.
This remarkable achievement not only brought glory to Sri Lanka but also secured Tharanga’s qualification for the prestigious World Athletics Championships, marking a significant milestone in his sporting career. His powerful throw has now placed him among the elite javelin throwers on the global stage.
Tharanga returned to Sri Lanka yesterday night (11 August 2025) following his triumph. His arrival was warmly welcomed by representatives from Sri Lanka Athletics, officials of the Sri Lanka Air Force and several sports personalities, who gathered to celebrate his achievement and honour his contribution to the nation’s sporting legacy.
