AIR CHIEF REVIEWS PROGRESS OF NEW CHILDREN’S WARD AT MAHARAGMA APEKSHA HOSPITAL
Under the financial sponsorship of Mr. Indra Kumara Silva, Founder and Chairman of the Indra Traders Group, the construction of a new five-storey building at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital is underway, with skilled supervision and dedicated labour provided by the Sri Lanka Air Force. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, conducted a special inspection today (12 September 2025), reviewing the progress of the new Children’s Ward Complex.
The proposed building, spanning 50,000 square feet, will house two residential wards capable of accommodating 80 patients. In addition, the facility will include a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a Pediatric Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit, thereby significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized cancer care for children.
During the visit, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe outlined plans for the timely completion of the project and emphasized the Air Force’s role in ensuring construction quality while supporting the hospital’s efforts to expand paediatric cancer care.
