SLAF CULINARY ART COMPETITION 2025 CONCLUDES WITH FLAVOR AND FLAIR
The SLAF exhibited an extraordinary celebration of culinary potentiality on the 12 and 13 September 2025, with the second edition of the SLAF Culinary Art Competition taking place in the historic city of Sigiriya. The awarding ceremony was held today (13 September 2025), graced by the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, together with the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe.
This competition was organized under the supervision of Director General Logistics, Air Vice Marshal Gladwin Athapaththu.
This year’s competition attracted more than 260 participants representing the Tri Forces, professionals from regional hotels and school children from the North Central and Central Provinces. Competitors, classified under Professional, Apprentice and School categories, displayed their skills in artistic food presentations, live cooking and bartending. The competition was conducted in accordance with the stringent standards of the ‘World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS)'.
A distinguished panel of judges, comprising Sri Lankan culinary experts including the Chairman of the Chef Guild of Lanka, Chef Gerard Mendis together with senior guild members, added prestige to the event.
Winners across the categories were awarded medals and certificates in recognition of their achievements. In addition, they were offered opportunities for further training and the chance to represent the SLAF at the ‘Culinary Arts Food Expo 2026’, organized by the Chef Guild of Sri Lanka, providing a platform for national-level recognition and contribution to the broader culinary industry.
Adding prestige to the occasion, several members of the Air Force Board of Management including Director General Aeronautical, Air Vice Marshal Gihan Senevirathne, Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal Thushara Weerarathne and Director General Electronic and Computer Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Asitha Hettiarachchi, together with other senior officers and distinguished guests, were present to witness the event.
