SLAF CONDUCTS ANNUAL RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AND ALMSGIVING AT THE TEMPLE OF THE SACRED TOOTH RELIC

The SLAF conducted its Annual Religious Ceremony and Almsgiving at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic yesterday evening (22 October 2025) and continued today (23 October 2025). The event was held under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, together with the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe. This significant religious observance was organized by the Directorate of Welfare for the 15th consecutive year.

Prior to the commencement of the yesterday’s evening ceremony, the Commander and the Chairperson Seva Vanitha Unit paid courtesy calls on the the Sumangalabhidhan Maha Vihara Vansika Shyamopali Maha Nikaya, Chief Incumbent of the Malwathu Chapter, Most Venerable Thibibatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Thero, Sri Pangnananda Gnanaratanabhidhana Maha Vihara Vansika Shyamopali Maha Nikaya, Chief Incumbent of the Asgiri Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Thero and the Chief Custodian of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Dr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

Special religious blessings were extended during the ceremony to commemorate those valiant individuals who laid down their lives for the motherland, as well as for the well-being of serving Air Force personnel and their families.

The Almsgiving ceremony held today (23 October 2025) included offerings to seventy-four Buddhist monks and was conducted in a solemn and spiritual atmosphere. The Chief Incumbents of both the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters attended the ceremony and invoked blessings upon the Commander of the Air Force and all members of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

This year’s ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management along with their spouses, Directors, Commandant, all Base Commanders, Commanding Officers, officers and other rankers. Notably, the event was also graced by the families of SLAF’s fallen heroes, honouring the legacy of those who courageously sacrificed their lives for the peace and security enjoyed today.
