RENOVATED CHILDREN’S PARK AND SENSORY GARDEN AT SERRIC DECLARED OPEN BY DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), declared open the renovated children’s park and Sensory Garden at the Senehasa Education, Resource, Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) today (17 December 2025).

The Sensory Garden has been designed to stimulate the five senses through safe and interactive features, providing a supportive outdoor environment for the cognitive, motor and emotional development of children. 

SERRIC provides specialized education and care for children with special needs, particularly those from military families. The renovation of the children’s park and the establishment of the Sensory Garden were carried out with labour assistance provided by the SLAF, with the aim of further enhancing the centre’s therapeutic and developmental facilities.

The event was attended by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, the President of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, the Director General Constructions Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadheera, the Director General Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Rajinth Jayewardene, other senior officials and members of the SERRIC staff.
