SLAF FIRE SCHOOL CONDUCTS SPECIALIZED FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE TRAINING FOR SL NAVY MARINES

A Building Firefighting, High-Angle Rope Rescue and Building Rappelling Training Programme for the Marine personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy was successfully concluded at the Fire School & Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS) of the SLAF Base Katunayake. 
The tailor-made training programme, conducted from 19 to 30 January 2026, was designed to enhance the emergency response capability of SL Navy Marine personnel tasked with providing fire and rescue cover for the Naval Headquarters building at DHQC. The course covered the basic fundamentals of the subjects outlined in the training objective, focusing on building firefighting, rope rescue techniques and building rappelling procedures relevant to operational requirements. 

The programme was attended by 20 trainees comprising one officer and nineteen sailors from the SL Navy Marine Corps. 

The training programme was conducted under the guidance of the Director General Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Dhammika Dias and the Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal Thushara Weeraratne. 

The training was supervised by the Chief Fire Officer of the SLAF, Group Captain PS Jayawickrama, and the Commanding Officer, Fire School & Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS), Wing Commander RCN Raneththi.
