COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL AWARDED TO MARK SLAF 75TH ANNIVERSARY
The SLAF ceremonially marked the 75th Anniversary with the awarding of the SLAF 75th Anniversary Commemorative Medal at Air Force Headquarters Sri Jayewardenepura today (03 March 2026).
The Honourable Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), attended as the Guest of Honour. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, and the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, were also present at the ceremony along with Members of the Air Force Board of Management, senior officers, officers, other ranks and civilian personnel.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, who was received by the Commander of the Air Force. Before the commencement of the awarding, the proclamation instituting the SLAF 75th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, conferred under the authority of His Excellency the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was read.
The Medal is awarded to all officers, other ranks, Volunteer Air Force personnel in active service, Officer Cadets and Recruits enlisted as at 02 March 2026, as well as Civilian Employees serving on that date.
The Deputy Minister Defence presented the SLAF 75th Anniversary Commemorative Medal to the Commander of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff. Thereafter, the Chief Guest awarded medals to the Members of the Air Force Board of Management. In the subsequent segment, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, presented medals to nominated officers, other ranks and Civilian personnel.
The Chief Guest also addressed the gathering during the ceremony. Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour in appreciation of their presence at the occasion.
