NO. 6 HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 33RD ANNIVERSARY
The No. 6 Helicopter Squadron at SLAF Base Anuradhapura celebrated its 33rd anniversary yesterday (15 March 2026) under the leadership of Air Commodore Pradeep Piyarathne. Established on 15 March 1993 at SLAF Base Katunayake with the induction of Mil Mi-17 helicopters, the squadron was subsequently relocated to SLAF Base Vavuniya on 29 April 1993 and later shifted to SLAF Base Anuradhapura to cater the operational requirements of the nation.
The anniversary proceedings commenced with the customary Working Parade at the squadron premises, inspected by the Commanding Officer. Following the parade, a friendly Elle match was held at the Base Sports Arena, strengthening comradeship among squadron members. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the squadron carried out a comprehensive Community Service Project at “Sathutu Uyana” Special Needs Children’s Home on 14 March 2026. As part of the initiative, renovation and improvement work were carried out to enhance the living environment and facilities of the children residing at the home.
