In parallel with the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Directorate of Health Services, in collaboration with SLAF Station Weerawila, conducted a cataract surgery programme on 28 and 29 April 2026.

The initiative was aimed at supporting the parents of SLAF service personnel. The procedures were carried out by a qualified medical team to ensure appropriate standards of ophthalmic care. The team comprised Consultant Ophthalmologist Group Captain Abhaya Jayasekara, along with Medical Officers Squadron Leader PBB Senarathne and Flight Lieutenant SAY Prabashwara.

The successful conduct of the two-day programme was supported by both service personnel and civilian staff of SLAF Station Weerawila, who assisted with patient preparation, theatre procedures and post-operative care.
