JAPAN LANKA FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION DONATES AMBULANCE, SCHOLARSHIPS AND SPECTACLES TO SLAF
The Japan Lanka Friendship Association, with the generous support of Mr. Goto Hideaki and the visiting delegation, donated an ambulance, six scholarships for deserving schoolchildren and 200 pairs of spectacles to the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit today (27 May 2026) during a colourful ceremony held at Air Force Headquarters.
During the event, the delegation ceremonially handed over the symbolic key of the ambulance to the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, accompanied by the Director General Health Services, Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Lalith Jayaweera.
A colourful cultural programme featuring traditional dance performances was also organized at Air Force Headquarters to make the occasion memorable for the Japanese delegation and to celebrate the enduring friendship between the two nations. Following the cultural performances, the Japanese delegation awarded six scholarships to deserving schoolchildren and handed over 200 pairs of spectacles to the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe.
The longstanding relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka continues to flourish through mutual goodwill, cooperation and people-to-people connections. The friendship between the Japan Lanka Friendship Association and the SLAF dates back to 2015 and has been further strengthened through generous donations, including fire vehicles, ambulances, turntable ladder vehicles and a fire car.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Gihan Senevirathna, Members of the Board of Management, the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura, Air Commodore Buddika Piyasiri, Secretary Seva Vanitha Unit, Wing Commander Lilangi Randeniya, President of Sun Tec Bios Corporation Company Limited, Mr. Goto Hideaki, President of A Globle Company Limited, Mr. Jin Songyue, the Vice President of the Japan Lanka Friendship Association, Dr. Eranga Hasanthi and a cross-section of officers, airmen and airwomen.
