COMMANDER ATTENDS INSPECTION AND DISCUSSION AT RENOVATED COLOMBO CENTRAL BUS TERMINAL
Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, attended an inspection visit and discussion at the renovated Colombo Central Bus Terminal today (12 June 2026) alongside the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Hon. Bimal Rathnayake and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).
The Colombo Central Bus Terminal, one of the country's key public transportation hubs, was recently reopened following extensive renovation and refurbishment work undertaken by the SLAF under the Government's "Clean Sri Lanka" programme. The project was aimed at enhancing the quality, safety and efficiency of public transport infrastructure for the benefit of the travelling public.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the renovated premises and reviewed the condition of the facility, its services and operational arrangements. A subsequent discussion focused on maintenance, operational management, ongoing development initiatives, security and safety aspects and challenges associated with the day-to-day functioning of the bus terminal.
Participants also explored measures to further improve passenger convenience, traffic management, cleanliness and overall operational efficiency, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the upgraded facility.
Director General Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadheera, Director General Constructions Engineering, Air Commodore Krishantha Hewapathirana, senior officers of the SLAF and SL Police, Officials of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), as well as representatives of other stakeholder institutions, participated in the inspection and discussion.
