INTER-UNIT POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP 2026

The Inter-Unit Powerlifting Championship 2026 was held at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda on 25 and 26 June 2026. The final session and Awards Ceremony took place yesterday (26 June 2026) at the Base Lecture Hall.

The Commandant of the SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Vice Marshal Amal Perera, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The Chairman of SLAF Weightlifting, Air Commodore Sanoj Jayarathne, members of the Air Force Sports Council, officers, other ranks and invited guests were also present to witness the final session and awards presentation.

The championship was conducted in eight weight categories for both men and women, with more than 80 competitors representing various SLAF establishments.

SLAF Trade Training School Ekala secured both the Overall Men's Championship and the Overall Women's Championship. SLAF Base Hingurakgoda finished as the Runners-up in both the Men's and Women's Championships.

Flight Sergeant Liyanage LSH of SLAF Base Ratmalana was adjudged the Best Lifter in the Men's category, while Leading Aircraftwoman Rupachandra WHPM of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura was named the Best Lifter in the Women's category.

Several new Sri Lanka Air Force powerlifting records were established during the championship.

Women's Category
Under 47 kg
Leading Aircraftwoman Rupachandra WHPM of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura established three SLAF records:
•    Bench Press – 36 kg
•    Deadlift – 91 kg
•    Total Lift – 177 kg

Under 57 kg
Temporary Airwoman Krishalini B of SLAF Trade Training School Ekala established an SLAF record in the Squat with a lift of 62 kg.
Under 84 kg

Leading Aircraftwoman Prabodani Kumari KURD of SLAF Base Ratmalana established two SLAF records:
•    Squat – 83 kg
•    Deadlift – 124 kg

Men's Category


Under 93 kg
Leading Aircraftman Rajapaksha RWMPGA of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura established an SLAF record in the Bench Press with a lift of 115 kg.

Under 93 kg
Corporal Dassanayake DMDM of SLAF Base Katunayake established an SLAF record in the Deadlift with a lift of 222 kg.
