NEW COMMAND MASTER WARRANT OFFICER TAKES OVER DUTIES

Master Warrant Officer MWCS Kumara assumed duties as the new Command Master Warrant Officer (CMWO) of the SLAF, succeeding Master Warrant Officer M Damith, under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, today (15 July 2026) at Air Force Headquarters.

The Commander handed over the appointment letter to Master Warrant Officer MWCS Kumara at the Commander's Office this morning.

The Commander appreciated the valuable and dedicated service rendered by Master Warrant Officer M Damith throughout his career in the SLAF, particularly during his tenure as the Command Master Warrant Officer of the SLAF. In recognition of his distinguished service, Master Warrant Officer M Damith was presented with a letter of appreciation and a memento by the Commander as a token of gratitude.

Master Warrant Officer MWCS Kumara joined the Sir Lanka Air Force on the 12 July 2006 as an Aero Engine Fitter tradesman. Before being appointed as the Command Master Warrant Officer, he served in the capacity of Warrant Officer in Charge of No. 5 Squadron at the SLAF Base Katunayake. 

The Command Master Warrant Officer appointment was established in July 2017. The Command Master Warrant Officer is the senior-most Other Ranker in the Air Force and reports directly to the Commander of the Air Force. He is vested with the overall responsibility for all aspects related to the general administration and welfare of other rankers and non-executive civilian employees of the SLAF.
