SLAF CONDUCTS WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL AIR LAW AND AIR DEFENCE OPERATIONS
A two-day workshop on International Air Law and its relevance to Air Defence Operations was successfully conducted at Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters, with the participation of 35 officers representing Fighter Controllers, Land-Based Air Defence Officers and Pilots.
The workshop was conducted under the supervision of the Director General Air Operations and the Director Air Defence, to enhance officers’ awareness of the legal framework governing international air operations and its practical application in the operational environment.
The workshop was conducted by Air Commodore AKS De Silva, LLM, BA (Def Stu), LLB, Pg Dip (Def Mgt), XF, MISMM, Attorney-at-Law, Notary Public, Commissioner for Oaths and Sworn Translator, who generously shared his extensive expertise and professional experience in the field of aviation law.
Through a series of focused lectures and professional discussions, participants were introduced to key principles of International Air Law and their relevance to Air Defence and aviation operations. The sessions addressed important legal considerations associated with the conduct of air operations, the responsibilities of personnel operating within the airspace environment, and the application of legal principles in operational planning and decision-making. The workshop thereby provided participants with a broader perspective of the legal framework underpinning their operational responsibilities.
The workshop served as a valuable professional development initiative, enhancing the legal awareness of officers engaged in Air Defence and aviation operations.
