CYBER SECURITY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME WITH MYANMAR AIR FORCE
The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) successfully conducted a Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) Programme with the Myanmar Air Force (MAF) from 31 August 2026 to 02 September 2026 at Air Force Headquarters, Sri Jayewardenepura. The programme was conducted as an initiative of the 1st Myanmar - Sri Lanka Air Staff Talks with the aim of strengthening cooperation, professional engagement and knowledge sharing in the field of cyber security.
The programme was organised and conducted by the Information Technology Division of Sri Lanka Air Force, with lectures delivered by SLAF IT Engineering Officers covering key areas including Cyber Awareness and Resilience, Cyber Governance, Emerging Cyber Threats, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, Digital Infrastructure Security, Data Protection, Secure Software Development, Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing and Cyber Threat Monitoring and Situational Awareness. A three-member Myanmar Air Force delegation participated in the programme and shared an overview of cyber security practices within the Myanmar Air Force. Further, subject matter experts from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT), Defence Cyber Command of the Ministry of Defence and the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Police contributed to conduct the programme. Their sessions covered ‘National Cyber Security Coordination and Critical Infrastructure Protection’, ‘Defence Cyber Strategy and National Security Priorities’, ‘International Cyber Law and Cross-border Cyber threats’ and ‘Digital Forensics and Cybercrime Investigation’.
The programme also featured two panel discussions under the themes ‘Strengthening Cyber Readiness in Military Operations’ and ‘Preparing Defence for the Future Cyber Environment’, providing an opportunity for participants and subject matter experts to exchange perspectives on present and emerging cyber security challenges affecting defence organisations. The programme provided a valuable platform for exchanging professional knowledge and experiences while further strengthening cooperation between the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Myanmar Air Force in the field of cyber security and paving the way for continued professional engagement and future collaboration between the two Air Forces.
