COMMANDER INSPECTS RENOVATION OF AIRMEN MARRIED QUARTERS AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, inspected the ongoing renovation work of the Airmen Married Quarters at SLAF Base Katunayake on 02 September 2026, reaffirming the Air Force’s continued commitment to enhancing the welfare and living standards of its personnel and their families.
The renovation project, initiated under the guidance of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, is being executed by the Directorate of Civil Engineering with the leadership, support and guidance of the Base Commander, SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Amith Jayamaha. The project focuses on restoring and upgrading a number of previously unoccupied and deteriorated Married Quarters, bringing them back into productive use as safe and improved residential facilities for Air Force personnel and their families.
A total of 30 Airmen Married Quarters have been identified for renovation under the ongoing programme. To date, seven quarters have been fully renovated, while renovation work on a further 15 quarters is currently in progress. The completed quarters are scheduled to be handed over by the end of this year. In addition to the renovation of the residential facilities, improvement work is also being carried out on the access roads leading to the Married Quarters, further enhancing accessibility and the overall living environment for the occupants.
During the inspection, the Commander reviewed the progress of the ongoing renovation works and emphasized the importance of maintaining the required standards of construction while ensuring timely completion of the projects. The restoration of these previously abandoned quarters represents a significant step towards making better use of existing infrastructure while providing improved accommodation facilities for Air Force personnel and their families.
