“ELEPHANT ROCK” CREW ROOMS OPENED IN SUPPORT OF EASTERN SECTOR AIR OPERATIONS

The “Elephant Rock” Crew Rooms, established under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe  and under the supervision of the Director General Air Operations (DGAO) and Director General Civil Engineering (DGCE), to cater to the air operational requirements of the Eastern Sector, were officially declared open by Group Captain PS Alexander, Commanding Officer SLAF Regimental Training Centre Ampara on 09 September 2026.

The facility comprises two crew rooms with dining facilities and provides convenient access to the historic “Elephant Rock” and the renowned “Peanut Farm” beach, offering an ideal recreational space for visiting aircrews. The facility is further complemented by a newly constructed helipad to support air operations in the area.

The opening ceremony was attended by officers and personnel of the Panama Detachment and SLAF Regimental Training Centre Ampara.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
