NO.174 - A INTAKE FIRE FIGHTER BASIC TRADE TRAINING COURSE CONCLUDES AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE
The Closing Address of the No. 174-A Intake Fire Fighter Basic Trade Training Course (01/2026) was held on 24 September 2026 at the Fire School & Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS), Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake, with Staff Officer Air Traffic Services, Directorate of Air Operations, Group Captain DLJRK Dodamgoda, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The training programme was conducted with the aim of enhancing the knowledge, technical skills and operational readiness of newly trained Fire Fighters of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The course provided comprehensive theoretical and practical training covering essential areas including fire chemistry, firefighting media, fire appliances, firefighting equipment, breathing apparatus, fire service pumps, fire vehicles, rescue procedures, fire detection and protection systems, fire prevention, aircraft firefighting and emergency response operations.
Throughout the training period, the course participants underwent structured classroom lectures, practical training sessions and operational exposure visits, enhancing their understanding of firefighting and rescue operations across different environments. The programme also included specialized training in aerodrome firefighting, the mechanical aspects of firefighting vehicles and fire service administration.
During the ceremony, the Chief Instructor of FS&FTMS presented the course report, highlighting the successful completion of the training programme and the achievements of the course participants. Certificates were subsequently awarded to the successful trainees in recognition of their commitment and successful completion of the Fire Fighter Basic Trade Training Course.
Aircraftman 53038 Kostha WAMG secured First Place in the Order of Merit of the No. 174-A Intake Fire Fighter Basic Trade Training Course (01/2026), demonstrating outstanding performance throughout the training programme.
The Chief Guest addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline and continuous development in maintaining an effective firefighting capability within the Sri Lanka Air Force.
