SLAF AND MYANMAR AIR FORCE CONDUCT SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT EXCHANGE ON AVIATION MEDICINE, MENTAL HEALTH AND NUTRITION
The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) successfully conducted a Medical Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) Programme with the Myanmar Air Force (MAF) from 28 September to 01 October 2026 at SLAF Hospital Ratmalana. Initiated following the first Myanmar–Sri Lanka Air Staff Talks, the programme aimed to strengthen professional cooperation, foster engagement and facilitate knowledge sharing in the fields of Aviation Medicine, Mental Health and Nutrition.
Organized by the Directorate of Health Services and conducted through SLAF Hospital Ratmalana under the leadership of its Commanding Officer, Group Captain (Dr) Priyadarshani Wijayanayake, the programme focused on several key areas, including Aircrew Selection and Re-certification, Aeromedical Evacuation (AMET), Psychological Screening in Aircrew Selection and Nutritional Challenges among Pilots and Aircrew.
A three-member medical delegation from the Myanmar Air Force participated in the programme, sharing insights into aviation medicine practices and professional experiences within their service. The exchange provided a valuable platform for both Air Forces to share technical knowledge, operational experiences and best practices in aviation medicine and related disciplines, while gaining insights into each other's approaches and expertise.
The programme further strengthened professional ties and mutual understanding between the two Air Forces, creating opportunities for continued engagement, knowledge exchange and future collaboration in aviation medicine and associated medical fields.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Director General Health Services of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera, and the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Vice Marshal Dinesh Jayaweera, marking the successful conclusion of the programme.
