The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema conducted the annual AOC’s inspection of SLAF Base Ratmalana on the 2nd of September 2011.

The Officer Commanding Personal Services at the Base, Gp Capt VP Balasooriya, received the Commander on his arrival and the Commander was formally welcomed by the AOC’s parade commanded by the Base Commander Air Cdre DLS Dias.

The Commander's inspection of the base, which is home to a number of lodger formations, was conducted smoothly. It was followed by an all ranks lunch at the airmen's mess.

During the all ranks briefing which was held at the hanger of No 8 squadron, the Commander emphasised the need for all ranks to take heed of the changes which have taken place in the country and within the Air Force with the end of the conflict and urged all to adapt to these changes accordingly.

He stated that the end of conflict brings about a new freedom which in itself opens up new opportunities and avenues which should be explored with responsibility. He stated that this required new thinking and urged all to grasp the opportunities available and work towards uplifting the standards of the Air Force whilst being mindful of the responsibilities the Air Force has towards the development of the country.
