Sri Lanka Air Force fire fighters based at SLAF Base Anuradhapura doused a massive fire which broke out at the ‘Swarna Electricals’ in the ‘Kada Panaha’ area at 0730 hrs this morning (29th September 2011).

The emergency was informed to the Operations Commander of the SLAF Base Anuradhapura seeking immediate firefighting assistance. SLAF Anuradhapura promptly reacted dispatching a team of fire fighters with the required fire fighting equipment to the site . On arrival it was seen that the entire shop was under flame.

However skilled and experienced fire fighters of SLAF Anuradhapura managed to douse the fire causing minimum damage to equipment and to the surrounding buildings. Due to the immediate and prompt action taken by  SLAF  Base  Anuradhapura the fire was prevented from spreading  to the surrounding building and thereby minimised the damage caused. The team of  fire fighters was led by Sqn Ldr SP Weerasinghe and comprised the  following members.F/SGT Melegoda MGT the Senior Non Commissioned Officer in charge, F /SGT Rathnayake RMSP, CPL Jayasinghe JMN, CPL Ekanayake EMS, CPL Kumara UKPM and LAC Ranasinghe RPNS
