Chef De Mission for the 1st South Asian Beach Games Hambantota
Wing Commander Samantha Weerasekara was selected by the Ministry of 
Sports and the National Olympic Committee as Chef de Mission for the Sri
 Lanka team for the above games  which will be conducted from 8th 
October to 14th October at Hambantota beach. The Sri Lanka team consists
 of 120 athletes and team officials. All 8 south Asian countries are 
taking part in this event. The following sports will be featured at 
these beach games.
-Beach basket ball, Beach volley ball, Beach 
netball, Beach football, Beach handball, Beach kabaddi, Body building, 
Marathon swimming, wind surfing, Life saving and Equestrian disciplines.
Hambantota
 is a candidate city bidding to host the 2018 commonwealth games, and 
the aim behind hosting this international event is to show the world 
that this city is the deep south of Sri Lanka is capable of hosting any 
international sporting event.
Wing Commander Samantha Weerasekara
 is the Secretary of SLAF Handball, Secretary of Sri Lanka Tennis 
Association  and is also a member of the National Olympic committee. He 
has had similar exposure in the field of sports, representing Sri Lanka 
as an Ambassador for the 15th Asian games held in Doha 2006, Deputy Chef
 de Mission at the South Asian games in Dakha  and at the Asian Games 
China  in 2010.
