RSFTS SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS HELIBORNE OPERATION COURSE FOR LOCAL AND FOREIGN PERSONNEL
The Regiment Special Forces Training School (RSFTS) at SLAF Station Morawewa successfully conducted the No. 11 Heliborne Operation Course with the participation of 29 personnel. Among them were two foreign officers from the Bangladesh Air Force and Army, one officer from the Sri Lanka Navy and one officer from the Special Task Force (STF). The remaining participants represented the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Police STF and SLAF Regiment Special Forces.
During the course, participants gained comprehensive training in helicopter safety and flight operations, including heliborne mission planning, jungle navigation and helicopter emergency procedures. They were trained in aircraft marshalling, CASEVAC operations and landing in confined or unprepared areas through practical exercises. The programme also enhanced operational decision-making and risk management skills through effective resource management, communication protocols and the assessment of operational risks.
In addition, participants acquired expertise in specialized mission execution such as search and rescue, medical evacuation and coordination with elite units of the SLAF and sister services. The course further prepared them to adapt to challenging environments, including adverse weather conditions and dynamic operational scenarios.
The training programme was conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer Regiment Special Forces, Wing Commander R Bastian, with the guidance and direct supervision of the Director General Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal HWR Chandima and the Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal NHDN Dias.
