SLAF CONDUCTS FIRE AND RESCUE DRILL AT AFHQ TO ENHANCE OPERATIONAL READINESS
The Fire and Rescue Service of the SLAF conducted a fire and rescue drill at Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters, today (26 November 2025).
A total of 43 SLAF firefighters, Kotte Fire brigade , Suwasariya ambulance service and other elements participated in the exercise under the supervision of SLAF Chief Fire Officer, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya. The SLAF team demonstrated rescue tactics that included rope rappelling, showcasing their operational readiness and proficiency in firefighting, as well as in Turntable Ladders (TTL) operations. The mock drill aimed to assess and enhance the operational efficiency of the involved units and to increase awareness among Headquarters staff to respond promptly and effectively in case of an actual emergency.
The exercise was observed by Director General of Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Dammika Dias, along with other members of the Air Force Board of Management. The simulated incident took place on the third floor of Air Force Headquarters, providing a realistic scenario for the exercise.
