In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the SLAF, a significant initiative has been undertaken to enhance information technology literacy among the younger generation. In line with this objective, the SLAF has established and handed over three fully equipped, modern IT laboratories to selected schools across the island, with the aim of strengthening digital education and bridging the technological gap in underserved communities.
Accordingly, two IT laboratories have already been successfully handed over to BT/Koddaimunai Kanishta Vidyalaya in Batticaloa and AM/Mangalarama Maha Vidyalaya in Ampara. As the third phase of this initiative, a newly established IT laboratory at CP/N/Dessford Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, situated in a rural tea estate village in Nanu Oya, was ceremonially declared open and handed over to the students yesterday (27 March 2026).

The project was led and closely supervised by the Director General Electronics and Computer Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Asitha Hettiarachchi together with the Director Information Technology, Group Captain Chanaka Sooriyaarachchi.
