As per the directives of the Commander of the Air Force, the Disaster Assistance and Response Team (DART), together with personnel from the Regiment Special Force and five Officers of the SLAF Combat Training School Diyatalawa, actively engaged in a rescue operation on 04 September 2025 at the Ella–Wellawaya road. The incident involved a bus that had plunged nearly a thousand feet into a precipice, making the rescue effort extremely challenging. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Sri Lanka Army, Police, and local volunteers.

The Commanding Officer of SLAF CTS Diyatalawa, Air Commodore Rukman Dassanayake, and the Commanding Officer of No. 30 Regiment Wing, Wing Commander MMPM Marasinghe, also took part in the rescue, ensuring that all casualties were safely evacuated and transferred to the Badulla Hospital.
