TWO IAF MI-17V5 HELICOPTERS ARRIVE IN SRI LANKA TO SUPPORT ONGOING SAR OPERATIONS

Two MI-17V5 helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived in Sri Lanka today (29 November 2025) to support the ongoing Search and Rescue (SAR) operations across disaster-affected areas. The helicopters brought a 22-member troop contingent along with essential Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) equipment to strengthen ongoing relief efforts.
The helicopters were captained by Wing Commander Nagesh Kumar and Wing Commander Mukul Mahajan, who will lead their respective mission teams in close coordination with local authorities throughout the operation.
Upon arrival at SLAF Base Katunayake, the Indian contingent was warmly welcomed by the Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Commodore Amitha Jayamaha, the Commanding Officer of No. 9 Helicopter Squadron, Group Captain Kanchana Kodikara, and representatives from the Indian High Commission to Sri Lanka.
