SLAF HOLDS EXPERT-LED WORKSHOP TO FORMULATE RISK ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK

A workshop on Formulating the SLAF Risk Assessment Framework, aligned with Management Audit Circular DMA/1-2024, was successfully conducted at Air Force Headquarters today (01 July 2026).
The workshop was organized on the initiative of the Director General Planning and SLAF Risk Officer, Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva, with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of Risk Committee members in identifying organizational risks, assessing their impact, implementing appropriate mitigation measures and developing a comprehensive risk management strategy for the SLAF.
The programme featured expert presentations by the Director – Group Risk and Control, Mr. Shaminda Fernando and the Head of Group Risk and Control, Hemas Holdings PLC, Mr. Akalanka Moragoda, who shared their extensive expertise and practical insights on Risk Management and the development of effective risk assessment frameworks.
Risk officers representing various Directorates and Divisions at Air Force Headquarters attended the workshop physically, while officers from the Academy, Bases and Stations participated virtually through video conferencing, ensuring broad institutional representation.
The interactive sessions provided participants with valuable knowledge on contemporary risk management practices, including risk identification, evaluation, treatment, monitoring and governance. The exchange of expertise between the resource personnel and participants strengthened the understanding of Risk Management principles and reinforced the importance of integrating risk management into organizational decision-making.
